Disappearing Diamond at Clarence Maheral

Updated Saturday May 13, 2017 by Kanata Baseball Association.

Did you know that several baseball diamonds have dissapeared over the years?

The number of baseball players in Kanata have doubled since 2009.  But the number of baseball diamonds has stayed the same.  Making the situation even more limiting, some diamonds have been eliminated on city properties.

One example of this is the small diamond at Clarence Maheral Park, next to where the Lions Club is on Castlefrank Rd.  The big diamond, Frank McDonald still exists and is in heavy use by our organization, but the small diamond has been grassed over.

The Ottawa emaps show that this diamond was in excellent condition in 2005 but was gone in 2007.  You can still see the outline today if you look, particularly in late summer where the grass over the ball diamond dries out before the rest of the field.
