This summer, led by head coach Chad Hussick and assistant coaches Robert Turcotte, Sandi Robertson, and Steve McEvoy, the Cubs 12U have advanced to 4 tournament semifinals and 3 finals in tournament play this year:
September 2017 - OBA Provincials
Game 1: A total team victory behind great pitching and consistent offence, the Cubs gave up an early lead against Markham but kept the pressure on to win the game 8-5.
Game 2: A complete team performance with strong defense and RBIs coming from 4 different players, the Cubs took the eventual Provincial Champions to the 7th inning tied at 5 where the Tin Caps managed to walk it off for a 6-5 victory.
Game 3: After an emotionally draining loss and no rest, the Cubs took the field against Peterborough Tigers. The Cubs demonstrated their incredible patience at the plate and provided and outstanding number of quality at bats but the Tigers' pitcher threw the game of his young career and shut down every Cubs offensive rally for 5 innings. The Tigers eventually won the game 5-0.
Final Results : Kanata Cubs finish tied for 5th in the province at Minor Peewee "A".
August, 2017
The Cubs 12U Rep Minor Peewee team win NCOBA title taking the best-of-3 final in the 3rd game 8-3 over a very strong Seaway Surge!
Facing the Surge's #1 pitcher, each member of the Cubs demonstrated exceptional discipline at the plate, earning every hit and every walk, and forcing a high pitch count that knocked the starter out of the game in the 3rd inning. Cubs pitchers got into trouble on several occasions, but also got out of it virtually unscathed with well timed strikeouts and a defence that showed up ready to play - turning double plays and making tough plays look routine! A 7-1 six run lead after the third inning proved too much as the Cubs took the final 8-3.
Next up is the OBAs Minor Peewee A Tournament in London, Ontario September 1-3.
